I recently had a phone conversation that went something like this, I will name the other person in the conversation, “Nony”, short for Anonymous.
Nony: I planted some lettuce outdoors recently, but none of it has sprouted.
Me: (Knowing the temperatures where the lettuce had been planted was between 90-100 degrees) Lettuce doesn’t do so well in hot weather, that is probably why it didn’t sprout.
Nony: I think I’ll try planting more in a few days, I’d really like some lettuce.
After the phone call ended I pondered how many times I have blown right past the facts and continued on my own path. God offers me His advice because He loves me. He loves me even more than I love myself. He desires my happiness more than I desire it myself. When He tells me, “You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3), He is sharing His knowledge of how to live with true peace and happiness in my life. He knows that when I serve my selfish desires, the true happiness I desire will not sprout and grow in my life. My only hope is to live all my moments by His power and for His glory.
