Snapshots of Life

A couple of nights ago I dreamt about being a photographer and last night I dreamt I bought a camera.  I bought a cheap camera, because that is what fit into my budget.  I didn’t really want it, but in the end I seemed happy enough with it because despite its cheap price, the ratings were good.  But, it was so cheaply made, it appeared to be a child’s toy camera.

I woke up wondering why I would be satisfied with such a cheap camera. Obviously it was the only one I could afford so it was the one I chose.  Now, my budget may only allow me to purchase a cheap camera, but in life why should I settle for less when God wants me to have more.  I’m not meaning that I ask God to give me the bigger better camera.  No.  Why should I settle for a cheap imitation of life when God has the ability and resources to give me more?  Why settle for fool’s gold when God has mountains of real gold just waiting for me to ask for it?  “I counsel you to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that you may be rich; and white clothing, that you may be clothed, and that the shame of your nakedness does not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.”  Revelation 3:18

I’m a child of the king, why should I sit around in rags and go dumpster diving when God is willing to give me the white clothing of righteousness and lasik surgery for my eyes rather than making do with a cheap pair of magnifying glasses bought at Walgreens.  He wants gold coins in my purse so that I may live a life full of the riches of wisdom, knowledge and faith, rather than live a  life searching the bottom of my purse for a few pennies.

Brett, who is really into photography, tells me that the most important part of a camera is the lens.  You can have a very expensive, amazing camera, stick a cheap lens on it and you will get cheap results.  In fact, at least in the olden days of film, you could put an amazing lens on a cheap camera body and get crisp, clear awesome pictures.  The type of lens you use determines if your camera will see things bright and clear or dark and blurry.  It’s kind of like us, when we choose to look at the world through anything other than the “lens” of God’s word, life can be blurry, dark and out of focus.  But when we snap on the lens of God’s truth to the body of our belief, life and the world around us becomes amazingly clear.  So don’t settle for Satan’s cheap, knock off, third-party lenses, accept only the wide angled, auto focusing and guaranteed lens of God’s truth.
