From Starry-Eyes to The Big Y In The Road

Brett walked in the door at lunch today and gave me a big hug and kiss.  I didn’t think a whole lot of it, fact is I would wonder more if it didn’t happen.  I enjoy the attention, but it happens every time he leaves or comes home.  On school days that would be a minimum of 4 times per day.  During lunch Brett shared that while listening to NPR news this morning on his short drive to work, he learned that 9 out of 10 married couples  go for a whole week without kissing.  Brett knew I would be  amazed and appalled.  Most newly weds begin marriage starry-eyed and joined at the hip.  So how do 9 out of 10 married couples, move from stars in their eyes to  such total darkness they can’t even find each other for a kiss and a hug?

According to a recent poll taken in October of this year, communication problems are the number one cause of divorce.  Followed by sexual infidelity, and not spending enough time together/not prioritizing the marriage.

Aspen just made a new friend.  You know they are special friends because every time they see each other they head for each other like magnets with smiles on their faces.  They talk and play together, ignoring most everyone else.  Everyone can see that they enjoy each others company.

My relationship with  God can be defined much the same way.  Do I smile and run to greet Him when he crosses my mind?  Or do I ignore Him, too busy to talk?  People are wired to have relationships.  If I’m not  spending time with, and communicating with, the important people in my life, ie; God, spouse, kids, friends, my relationships with these people will soon be headed for a Y in the road with me taking one path and they taking the other.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  Matthew 6:33

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.  Matthew 6:24
