Imagine for a moment that every word you speak is automatically printed out and filed in one of two files: Positive Words, or Negative Words.  At the end of the day the words are tallied and those that are the heaviest will predict your own personal weather for the next day.  If more of your words were in the Negative file then you will walk around in gloomy weather, occasional fog and rain with some thunder and lightning storms.  If Positive Words outweighed the Negative then your day will be filled with sunshine, blue skies and a warm breeze.

My oldest daughter once told me that I said mostly negative things.  I immediately disagreed with her.  It was absolutely not true!  It took me several months, with the occasional twinge to my conscience, before I took an honest evaluation of the words that came out of my mouth and decided she had been right after all.  I did not like my conclusion and went to work on being more positive.  I am still working on it, but now I can usually recognize when I am being negative.  It doesn’t always stop me mid-sentence, but I do have the opportunity to do so since I am now capable of recognizing the negativity as it happens.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.  Proverbs 19:14

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.  Ephesians 4:29

Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.  Proverbs 16:24

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.  Colossians 3:8
