We spent the day driving home today.  We were about 45 minutes from home when my phone beeped with a weather update.  A tornado warning was in effect, it told us to take cover immediately.  We looked around, didn’t see a tornado, checked the radar map for the weather and decided if we pushed it we could beat the bad weather home.  I pushed my little four-cylinder to 80 mph.  We outdistanced the dark clouds and made it home before the weather caught up with us.

I was reminded of a time several years ago when Brett and I were waiting for a flight to depart at the Denver airport.  We were nearly ready to board the plane when all the departing flights were delayed due to a tornado in the area of the airport.  Now, I don’t like to be delayed any more than the next person, but if there is a tornado around I’d rather wait it out on the ground than get in a plane and fly through the air.  I was amazed at all the grumbling people in the airport complaining about the delayed flight.  My sister, who had dropped us off at the airport, actually drove through strong winds and hail on her way home.  When we finally did take off, the headwind shook the plane so strongly  I was amazed that the plane didn’t come apart.  I used to live in Alaska and was used to some pretty rough flights, but I had never been on a ride like that before.

When the tornado was an actual threat to flights taking off the people in charge of delaying flights did what they needed to do to keep people safe.  But, when the weather had cleared enough to be safe, (despite being far worse than I would have approved a flight), they cleared the planes for takeoff.  God never allows me to go through a worse storm than I can handle.  Even when I might be grumbling because I feel like I’m not going where I want to go or getting there fast enough, God makes sure to set me on my journey at just the right time.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.  Romans 8:28

No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.  1 Corinthians 10:13
