Lord, in the morning You will hear me; in the morning I will present my case to You and then wait expectantly for an answer.  Psalms 5:3

This evening I took a look around the house and with exasperation said to Brett, “Didn’t I just clean the house yesterday?”  He agreed that yes I had made the house sparkling clean less than 24 hours ago.  But with the help of a small child that lives in our house, clean quickly disintegrates into chaos.

I would like to not “have to” clean the house every day to keep it sparkling.  Personally I find cleaning boring.  I like the effects, but the effort is mundane.  But, my house is as clean as I choose to make it.

My spiritual life is as vibrant and alive as I choose to make it.  Fortunately I don’t consider my devotional and prayer time mundane.    I love to get  up early and see what God has to say to me for the day.  But even so on occasion I sleep later than usual or Aspen gets up earlier than usual and I don’t get to spend my usual morning devotional time as planned.  I always feel like I missed out on those days.

Just like the house quickly becomes messy while being ignored for just a day, my spiritual life needs to be attended to daily as well.  When God sent manna to the Israelites they needed to collect it every day except the seventh day which was a day of rest.  If they collected more than they needed, it spoiled and they weren’t able to use it.  Spending three hours on the weekend at church is great,  but without daily communication with God, my spiritual life can quickly become a mess.

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.  “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in Him.  The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.  It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
