Today I watched Aspen use a pencil to reveal the pictures in her “Hidden Pictures Magic Drawing Book”. You know the kind of book I’m talking about; the ones that have a picture that you can’t see, but when you rub a pencil over it, the picture is revealed. It reminded me how God has a picture of our lives already. As we go through life and follow His plan the picture is revealed.
This morning Brett asked me if I knew where the small fan was since we had moved. I told him it was by the washing machine in a large black trash bag under Aspens Hello Kitty blanket. Later I noticed he didn’t have it so I asked him if he had looked for it yet. He said that he couldn’t find it. When I questioned him, he said he did find the bag with the Hello Kitty blanket, but there was another blanket under it so he didn’t think the fan was in the bag.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us: “I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope.” He has the best plan for us. Though most of us seem to acknowledge that mentally we seem to have a hard time living like we believe it. When I told Brett that the fan was under the Hello Kitty blanket, he must not have really and truly believed it because he didn’t keep looking for the fan because at first glance he didn’t see it. Most of the time the plan God has for us requires more than a casual glance. It can require some deep soul searching and willingness to give up our plan for His. But the good thing about following God’s plan is that we get the right picture. I can just see a “Magic Hidden Pictures” finished drawing if we only partially follow God’s plan and the other times follow our own. Rather than a picture of a duck, we may end up with a cow-duck, or a duck-pig-chicken.
