I love opening a new bag of Lay’s plain potato chips. As soon as I get the bag open I search for the chips that are folded over. I eat all of those first before I bother with the mundane unfolded chips. Now if only I searched for a good attitude as diligently when life opens a bag of unpleasantness. The bag of chips has folded and unfolded chips all from the same maker. I can either choose to cheerfully accept both or complain when the folded chips run out and I’m left with the boring chips.
When the children of Israel wandered through the desert God took care of them. As long as things were going well the children of Israel were happy, but the moment something went wrong, they began to complain and wish that they were slaves again back in Egypt. How quickly they forgot that it was God who provided them with everything and they just needed to trust that He was willing to do so again.
Take for example the story in 2 Chronicles 20 where the enemy was marching against the Israelites. They knew that they could never repel the enemy on their own so they gathered together to pray. When it came time to march against their enemy the choir went first and sang praises to God! It was an unusual battle strategy but while they were praising God, He overcame the enemy and when they arrived at the enemy campsite the enemy was no longer a problem.
When we take a look at the chips life has to offer, we should cheerfully praise God in all circumstances!
