Don’t Drive Like Brett!

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.  Psalm 32:8

When we left NYC after our short visit there I picked up the GPS and punched in HOME.   Our GPS unit routed us through Baltimore.  Little did we know that the route it chose would require us to go through a tunnel.   Since I am occasionally claustrophobic this was not a good thing.  As we neared the tunnel we took the exit that said, “Last exit before tunnel”.   Safe!  Well, we were until Brett misread a road sign and turned onto the exit that would take us back onto the highway with the tunnel and no more exits.  I voiced my concern and Brett actually backed up on the exit while watching for traffic, and police.  After all this was the trip he had been pulled over for making a ‘U-Turn’ on a ‘No U-Turn sign’.  Backing up proved successful,  but the GPS refused to route us another direction.  Being unable to see much of the map on the small GPS screen was frustratingly unhelpful so Brett pulled into a truck stop and bought a full size map.  Seeing where we were and where we needed to go was now easy.  We pulled out of the truck stop made a couple of turns and headed for home, minus the tunnel.

When things go wrong in our lives we don’t know what to do.  We sigh and groan,  moan and complain.  But, God has the big map.  He’s not worried about where we are going and how we are going to get there at all.  He has it all mapped out.  We may only see the small map on the GPS of our lives, but all we need to do is take the next right step and in the end we will wonder why we were so upset about a situation that had us utterly tied up in knots.

I trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding. In all my ways I acknowledge Him and He directs my paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

I shall hear a word behind me, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever I turn to the right or the left.  Isaiah 30:21
