……for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of His eye.” Zech. 2:8.
Pretend for a moment that you are a parent and that little Johnny has just come home from his first day of school in kindergarten. His new pants are torn and his knees and elbows are all scratched up. Johnny sadly looks up at you and tells you the story of how it happened. He was out on the play ground at recess and the biggest kid there waited til the teacher wasn’t looking and then knocked Johnny off the monkey bars, then he threatened to do it again if Johnny told. Johnny didn’t tell and next thing he knew the big kid pushed him off the slide, spun him on the merri-go round so fast that he fell off, and then while swinging next to him crashed into little Johnny several times causing bruises that you hadn’t seen yet.
You seethe with anger and cry with sympathy all at the same time. You clean little Johnny up and fix him his favorite dinner. You call in to work and take the next day off. You are going to school with little Johnny tomorrow and you are going to show that big kid he can’t mess with your son. At recess the next you play with your son, the big kid casts sour looks your direction but doesn’t come near you.
1 Peter 5:8 tells us that our, “enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” The devil likes to knock us around in life but God, our Father, tells us in Psalm 50:15 “Call upon Me in the day of trouble, I will deliver you….”
