Red Rock Canyon

“This is life eternal,” Christ said, “that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent.” John 17:3.

Brett and I decided to take Aspen on the Children’s Hike in Red Rock Canyon.  The description of the short hike included a seasonal waterfall at the end of the trail.  We parked the car and hiked about half a mile.   True to the description a lovely waterfall greeted us at the end of the hike.  The streaming water created a good-sized pond and Aspen enjoyed throwing rocks into the water while Brett took pictures of the waterfall.  A couple of weeks later we decided to hike the same trail again as Aspen had enjoyed the hike so much.  This time when we reached the end of the trail we were greeted by the sight of a barely trickling waterfall and dried up mud rather than a pond.  What a disappointment!  The waterfall was only present when plenty of rain had fallen.

If we desire an abundant spiritual life we need to stay in the rain of the Holy Spirit and the presence of God, otherwise our spiritual lives will be like the seasonal waterfall and dry up to just a trickle of water and cracked mud.  If we stay in the fresh rain of God we will have a constant supply of His beauty to share with others.

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.  Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.  For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;  and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.  For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:3-8
