Aspen wanted to play outdoors yesterday so I spent some time ‘pulling’ some weeds from the flower garden. My work was only half-hearted though and I know that I will be seeing the same weeds and grass sprout up again in the same place because I didn’t pull out the whole root, I just broke it off at soil level.
We can by our own power remove the weeds in our life at ground level. But while we appear to be living a spiritual life it will be nothing but a lie. Given enough time the weeds will regrow and cast shade over the cultivated flowers that were planted. Since weeds grow faster than the flowers, soon the flowers will lose sight of the sunshine and eventually fade away in the darkness. Only God has the power to remove the lie’s Satan has buried deep into our lives.
So often we have so little power in our lives to overcome because while Christ has sown the seed of truth in our lives and we find it attractive and desire more, we fail to allow God to remove the familiar weeds in our life. Yes, the weeds can be attractive as well, so we leave them. I have plenty of weeds growing in the wooded area behind my house and they have some nice little flowers on them and it does create a lovely view. But they are not nearly as beautiful as the cultivated flowers are in my flower bed.
Now all glory to God, who is able, through His mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Ephesians 3:20
But as Scripture says: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9
Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12
