When others I’ve met  discover that I am a vegetarian the rest of the conversation usually goes something like this: “Oh, you’re a vegetarian?  I’m almost a vegetarian.  I don’t eat meat very often.  Only…”   And then the person goes on to explain how often they eat meat….which turns out to be almost every day.   Outwardly I smile, while inwardly groaning.  Another “Almost Vegetarian.”  Though I have a confession to make; I have done the same thing myself when someone who is a vegan asks if I’m a vegan or not.  I usually  say, “Well almost.”  And then go on to explain the ‘rare’ times I eat dairy products.  Basically I’m  vegan if it’s convenient, if not I eat whatever dairy products are set before me.

How many of us are ‘Almost Christians?’  We are Christians while at the youth group, or choose the popular church to go to because it’s good for business, or politics, or because our friends go there and they have a great children’s program.  If only we were as committed to God as He is to us!  Until your heart is united to His, He is the lonely bridegroom waiting for His bride to come home.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ— by grace you have been saved—  Ephesians 2:4-5
