The path to a higher life is to go lower and lower.  It’s sort of like the treasure of this earth.  Diamonds, gold, silver are buried deep under the dirt.  People go through great lengths to acquire them.  Brett and I like to visit ghost towns.  I hang out and read a good book while Brett takes pictures.  A lot of the ghost towns began because gold was found.  Then when it disappeared the town died.  Kind of like what happens to us spiritually if we chase after the things of this world rather than the heart of God.

If only we could see the true worth of the Bible….far more than the sticker price stuck on the front of the box.  Unfortunately, it is so much easier to dig in the dirt than it is to pray like the tax collector in the synagogue.  “But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’  Luke 18:13
