Do you ever notice that when you’re really hungry you tend to make poor food choices. I know I do. Today though I will use my wonderful husband Brett as an example. If Brett has a good breakfast before heading to school, when he is hungry at lunch, it’s pretty easy for him to turn to a power smoothie or naked juice. However, when he works through dinner and his tummy rumbles just before bedtime, he reaches for cookies…Girl Scout cookies to be exact (he likes to buy those by the case!). I’m sure you have experienced the same thing.
I think the same phenomena holds true for our spiritual lives as well. We go along day after day starving our spiritual souls and then when temptation comes along we easily fall for it. So here are some spiritual “power bar” morsels from God’s Word to fill up on:
Psalm 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Psalm 121:2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth!
Romans 12:2 Don’t become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants-what is good, pleasing, and perfect.
1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
