We walked through the front door of ‘home sweet home’ about an hour ago. The mission trip came to an end and we spent the day driving a van full of teenagers back home from the mission trip. There were several times today while driving that all of a sudden the traffic would slow down. Not for long, just enough to be annoying. It didn’t take long to figure out each time that what was slowing people up was the sight of a police car on the side of the road.
Just as I was lamenting the ridiculousness of people slamming on their brakes in a gut reaction to seeing a police car this thought hit me: are we like that with God? Do we slow down and pay attention to Him when we have a momentary encounter with Him only to speed back up and zip along as if He didn’t exist when He is no longer within view? God would love to be friends with us……He doesn’t want us to slow down in fear just because He is around. He would rather play the role of protector in our lives rather than enforcer.
For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. Romans 5:10
