For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. Romans 5:7 NAS
I think that most of us like to think we’re a pretty decent person to hang out with. After all we do all the right things, get a shower, use the right shampoo, brush our teeth, style our hair just right and put on the right clothes. Our friends seem to like us. They laugh at what we say, they invite us over to hang out with or go places with, and we have over 500 friends on facebook. Yes, we like to think we are doing pretty well for ourselves. But, why would God want us to be His friends? How is being Gods friend different from being friends with another walking, talking, seeable human friend?
What do your friends do for you? Pay for your coffee at Starbucks? Laugh at you jokes? Help you pick out the right shoes to go with your new outfit? Do your homework? Share the latest gossip? Go to the movies with you? Listen to you vent about your boss?
What does God do for you? Well, for starters He gave His only son to die for you on the cross to save you from your sins! And if that’s all he ever did for you, wouldn’t that be more that enough? Certainly more than we deserve, after all, what do we do for God in comparison to that? And yet His greatest desire is to spend the day with us. And not just once a week or maybe one week out of the year but all day everyday. Don’t you want to hang out with someone who gave their only son for you?
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 NAS
