You know how dreams are, just a little bizarre and sometimes they don’t make sense.  In my first dream last night I was at a new elementary school and the thing to trade seemed to be sewing pins with the round colored plastic heads.  When my boys were in school the thing to trade was Pokemon cards.  I bought all the pins from one little boy and paid way more than they were worth.  Even in my dream I knew that, but I did it anyway.  It seemed odd to pay so much for them when they weren’t worth much and I didn’t even want them, but acquiring pins seemed the thing to do, so I did it.  I woke up and thought how that relates to real life.  How many times we trade something of worth, time for example, that we will never be able to get back, doing something entirely or at least mostly worthless.

In my second, even more bizarre dream,  my husband ate a pizza with many healthy things on it that he wouldn’t ordinarily eat!   Now, if his pizza had been covered in Twinkie’s, Ho-Ho’s and Ding Dong’s, that wouldn’t have seemed strange at all.  But, to see him eat a pizza covered in broccoli, mushrooms and spinach?  Seriously, he is a pickier eater than all four of my kids put together!   But, he didn’t seem to mind eating it, saying that it was surprisingly good.  As he ate piece after piece the pan it was prepared on was revealed and he began eating more pizza just to get to the pan.  It was a rare and expensive pan and he wanted to see all of it.  This dream reminded me of the text found in 1 Corinthians 9:24, “Know you not that they who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? So run, that you may obtain.”   As well as Philippians 3:14,  “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

I started drinking green smoothies several years ago.   I drank quite a few smoothies with a scrunched up face just trying to get the healthy dose of green stuff down.  But, now I really enjoy my green smoothies, even when I make them with what used to be my most unfavorite greens.  And I can’t believe I’m saying this but, if I go a day or two without my smoothies I really miss them.  Of course, there are times I still wish a bag of Ruffles potato chips and a carton of Pralines and Pecan ice cream were healthy (it’s so much fun to dig through the ice cream for caramel and pecans).  Yum!  But, that’s kind of like wishing that three hours of Bugs Bunny cartoons was as good for my spiritual life as 15 minutes of Bible study and prayer.

I challenge you today to choose the best, not wasting time on Looney Toones, but to run to win the race that God has set before you!
